Pusat Studi Biofarmaka Tropika of LPPM IPB Organized the Serial Workshop on Bioinformatics Network of Pharmacology

Pusat Studi Biofarmaka Tropika (Trop BRC) of the Institute of Research and Community Empowerment of IPB, organized the Serial Workshop on Bioinformatics Network of Pharmacology, on Tuesday and Wednesday, 11-12 April 2017, in IPB Campus, Taman Kencana, Bogor. The Director of Trop BRC of LPPM IPB, Dr. Irmanida Batubara, stated that this special event is organized to provide participants the current knowledge on the process of determining the candidate for drug formula approach by using Pharmacology Network.
Dr. Irma of Trop BRC explained that there is a paradigm shift in the drug invention lately, from single-component single-target into a multi-component multi-target. This paradigm has introduced the Pharmacology Network approach. By considering drug actions and side effects in the context of the regulatory networks within which the drug targets and disease gene products function, network analysis promises to greatly increase our knowledge of the mechanisms underlying the multiple actions of drugs. This approach discusses how analysis of biological networks has contributed to the genesis of systems pharmacology and how these studies have improved global understanding of drug targets, suggested new targets and approaches for therapeutics, and provided a deeper understanding of the effects of herbal medicine. This workshop is designed for academicians, researchers or practitioners who need to know the prediction process on herbal formula utilizing Pharmacology Network approach.
By attending the Workshop, the participants have acquired abreast knowledge on process of determining the formula for drug candidate through the Pharmacology Network approach of (pharmacological approach network to understand the mechanism of action of traditional herbal medicine). Participants had also been given opportunity to utilize data, and processed them utilizing the correct computer program. By integrating multi-faceted approaches, systems pharmacology can provide mechanistic understanding of both the therapeutic and adverse effects of drugs.
Hopefully, in the near future the Trop BRC LPPM will become excellent National Center on Tropical Medicine, which is supported by competent personnel in its related field, and appropriate laboratory equipment as well. The development of Medical Center will start from herbal cultivation (raw materials), harvesting, and turning them into medicinal products utilizing appropriate technology.
