FEM IPB Studies Cassava Agribusiness in Lampung

Agribusiness Department of the Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) in collaboration with Indonesia Agribusiness Bridge (JAI) led by Dr. Krisnamurthi held a fieldtrip to Lampung (15-17/4). This activity involves five lecturers, eight undergraduate (S1) and seven postgraduate (S2) students of Agribusiness programs.

 

This activity is a series of industrial visits to PT Sungai Budi Group, which is the oldest agribusiness company in Lampung with the main activity of cassava processing. This company is a holding company of 13 subsidiaries and other business units.

 

In addition to visiting the tapioca processing factory, the participants also visited the processing plants of glucose (biogas processed from wastewater), power plant, palm oil mills, sugar mills, and the company's private port with its means of transportation.

 

Students also visited the cassava farm owned by farmers to get information on cassava farming practices directly from the farmers. In addition, they also looked at a sugar cane plantation.

 

The activity carried out in order to bridge the student's understanding of the theories obtained on campus combined with the business practices on field so that they could have a thorough understanding.

 

On the last day they had the opportunity to have discussion with one CEO of PT Sungai Budi Holding Company, Alfred and also Dr. Krisnamurthi as founder of JAI. The last day was a question and answer forum on the management and strategic level as well as the participants giving feedback to the company. *** (Mtd)
