Professor of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Prof. Dr. Armansyah H. Tambunan in his scientific oration entitled "Energy and Agriculture Eksergi: Perspective of Thermodynamics and Renewable Energy Utilization", says the lack of understanding of the concept of energy results in many errors in planning the utilization of energy. One error is the reliance on fossil fuels.

"The concept of energy based on the thermodynamics law is that energy is eternal, thus the term energy crisis is actually scientifically acceptable because the amount of energy will always remain the same," he said when delivering a scientific oration at Darmaga Campus of IPB Bogor, on Saturday (27/2).

For this reason, in his research, Prof. Armansyah make efforts to increase the effective use of energy for agriculture. For example the development of the cooling system with multilevel temperature to increase the effective use of energy. Another study is the development of solar thermal storage system for drying.

"We are also doing the conversion of biomass energy to other forms with a higher calorific value, for example the use of catalysts in biodiesel production process using a static stirring reactor. Other activities include the production of bio-char, bio-oil and gas through pyrolysis and development of gasification furnaces," he said.

According to him, in the development of bioenergy there are a few things to note such as production in the village but it use is in the cities. Its economic value should be distributed proportionally to the increase the rural welfare. (Mtd)
