Rimau Libong Gerga orange and red Garifta came up as the first winner of the Excellent Orange and Mango Contest, part of the Fruit and Flower Festival of Nusantara (FBBN) 2015, Thursday (26/11), at Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) International Convention Center. "Rimau Gerga Lebong is an orange that can compete in international markets," said Arry Supriyanto, the jury of the Research Institute for Tropical Fruit and Orange, Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia. Second winner is Keprok orange owned by H. Tosin from Garut and third place goes to Siem orange owned by Syaifulloh Aziz. The good things about the Keprok orange of H. Tosin, is that it is sweet and easy to peel. Arry admits that this contest this time does not involve so many participants. "This is because orange is a seasonal fruit, so this month November is not the season. However, Indonesia has a wide variety of orange fruits," he said.

As for mango, Red Garifta belonging to Abdul Gani is the first winner having the advantage of beautiful red skin, nice aroma and sweet. So said a jury of mango, Dr. Muryati of the Research Institute for Tropical Fruit. The second winner in the mango group is Gedong Gincu owned by Joko from Cirebon and third place is taken by Agrimania owned by H. Urip from Indramayu.

Ir. Rahmat Pinem, MM of Postharvest Fruit Farming Directorate, Ministry of Agriculture, in his speech said it strongly supports an event like this. "From a contest like this, I hope IPB could participate in developing a variety of fruit of the archipelago. Actually, the oranges and mango, the winners of this contest are fruits of excellence. Red Gerifta for example already starts to be developed on a thousand hectares of land, but not yet harvested. Agrimania is also considered as rare and will be developed. Such fruits also have attractive skin color as the typical fruit of the archipelago. Hopefully, one day our country became a major producer of tropical fruit. Let us together develop the fruit of the archipelago," he said. (Mtd)
