IPB Hosted the Second Congress of the Indonesian Association of Development Extension (PAPPI)

Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB – Bogor Agricultural University) to host "The National Symposium on Sustainable Development Extension and the Second Congress of the Indonesian Association of Development Extension (PAPPI) 2015", on Tuesday, 24 November 2015, at the Auditorium of Andi Hakim Nasoetion, Dramaga Campus. The Symposium was officially opened by the Rector of IPB, Prof. Dr. Herry Suhardiyanto. Rector expected that the Pappi Congress will recommend an effective formulation for the extension professionals for all aspects of development.

 

Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Dr. Siti Amanah,  said that to achieve the present  Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) we should begin to utilize Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Accordingly, the extension professionals should follow the dynamics of the existing conditions. However, the attention to the extension professionals  are still limited. 

 

Chairman of PAPPI, Prof. Sumardjo, in his remarks explained that measures to improve the quality of human is how the potential in the communities will be fully realized, and the proportion of those who involve in the development process will be benefitted from the sustainable development in economic, social and ecological.

 

Consistent with such view, added Prof. Sumardjo, to enable the development will be focused on human capital development, there must be three pillars of the development processes, namely empowerment, participation and sustainability. Both private and public sectors, which are active for the development on the dignity of the communities need to adapt those three pillars. 

 

Resource persons invited to the PAPDI Congress, among other were  Rector of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), Prof.Dr. Ravik Karsidi, and Head of the Pusat Penyuluhan Pertanian (Agricultural Extension Center), Ir.Fathan A Rashid, M.Ag. As well as the Dean of the Faculty of Human Ecology (FEMA) of IPB, Dr. Arif Satria. (Wied)
