Business School of Bogor Agricultural University (SB-IPB) held a national seminar with the theme "Agri-Food Complex: A Catalyst for A More Sustainable and Inclusive Growth", Saturday (21/11). The annual event of releasing graduates in Master of Management (MM) and Doctor of Business Management Programs was held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Jakarta.

The event was opened with a speech by IPB Rector, Prof. Dr. Herry Suhardiyanto and Director of the Graduate Program in Management and Business, who is also Chairman of the Drafting Team of the SB-IPB Organization Structure, Dr. Arief Daryanto.

Rector said that the theme of this seminar is one of a series of activities carried out IPB. "This theme is in line with the vision and mission of IPB, namely sustainability and concern for inclusiveness. Because talking about agriculture cannot not be separated from the involvement of small farmers," said the rector.

Meanwhile, Dr. Arief said that the seminar theme raised is in line with the new vision of SB-IPB. "For a long time we have heard that the economic growth that occur in many countries has lack of the planet sustainability and is less friendly to the small. The same thing happens with the agri-food complex, but this sector is environmentally related because it relies on natural resource and involves a lot of small businesses, especially in Indonesia," said Dr. Arief.

"Meanwhile, the value-chain for agri-food is in general global and controlled by multi-national companies. Thus, the agri-food complex is expected to be a catalyst of more sustainable and inclusive growth if we have a good will and can manage it professionally," continued Dr. Arief.

This time, the National seminar invited Chairman & CEO of Sinarmas Agribusiness and Food, Franky Oesman Widjaja as the keynote speaker. Also present as reviewers were Professor of Agricultural Economics, University of Lampung (Unila), Prof. Dr. Bustanul Arifin and Dr. Arief Daryanto.

On this occasion, an official grand launching of IPB Business School (SB-IPB) was also held by Rector. "Agriculture is no longer just limited to the on-farm issue and simple processing, but has evolved into a broader and more complex business that demands IPB to develop business management competencies. It is necessary to carry out an undergraduate program with a portfolio of businesses," said Rector, related to the development of SB-IPB Undergraduate Program, which is officially introduced this year.

In this event, the SB-IPB releases 175 graduates, consisting of 157 Master of Management graduates and 18 Doctoral graduates of Business Management. These SB-IPB graduates add to the total number of IPB graduates, 132 178 graduates. (Mtd)
