Kamir R. Brata, Inventor of Biopori Technology of IPB Received Kalpataru Award 2015
At the same time with Environment Day of 5 June 2015, Kamir R Brata, the inventor of the technology of Infiltration Hole of Biopori (LRB), Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), obtained Kalpataru Award from Government of Republic of Indonesia for the category of Patron of Environmental Achiever. The awarding was done by President of RI, Joko Widodo, in Bogor Palace (5/6/2015).
The infiltration hole of biopori was appropriate technology and environmentally friendly which was intended to accelerate the infiltration of rainwater and to tackle the organic waste. Among the benefits of the application of technology of the infiltration hole of biopori among others were preventing floods, landslides and erosion, increasing the reserves of clean water, and composting and soil enrichment. The infiltration hole of biopori was made on the ground with a diameter of 10 cm and a depth of about 1 meter. The hole which had been made was filled with the organic waste to trigger the formation of biopori (pores shaped of hole made by soil fauna or plant roots).
Kamir R Brata said, "The award from the government is a strong support for the public to apply this technology in order to prevent flooding. For that, the people do not hesitate anymore to apply this technology," said Kamir. He said, the support from all parties as well was highly expected to preserve the environment by the infiltration hole of biopori. (AS)
