Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science of IPB (FMIPA IPB) Upgrading Teachers of Mathematics and Natural Science in Nias Utara Monday, March 24, 2014
As a follow up of the resulted assessment on the learning of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MIPA) in Junior, Senior and Vocational High Schools in Nias Utara on 28-29 October 2013, the Education Office of Nias Utara Regency in cooperation with FMIPA-IPB conducted Upgrading of Mathematics and Science Teachers in Junior/Senior/ vocational High Schools of Nias Utara on 10-14 March 2014 in Lotu, Nias Utara. In his speech, Head of Education Office, Drs. Fanotona Zega, MAP, asserted that the mastery and learning of science especially mathematics and science is important to develop Nias Utara so that it can compete at the national level. Further. Dr. Kiagus Dahlan from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Bogor Agricultural University (MIPA-IPB) adds the mastery of science is done through the teacher because the it is proven that teachers are the major driver of the nations’ progress.
This upgrading involved134 teachers divided into four parallel groups or classes, namely Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Each group, besides getting special materials appropriate to its class, also received material enrichment in utilizing information technology to support learning. The teachers’ motivation was apparent during the opening that was begun by singing the national anthem "Padamu Negeri" in reverence and excitement.
To this upgrading, FMIPA-IPB sends its team consisting of Dr. Kiagus Dahlan, Dr. Ence Darmo Jaya Supena, Dr. Irmanida Batubara, Drs Ali Kusnanto, MSI, and Dr. Imas S. Sitanggang. The first-phase upgrading will continue with the second phase, which will also be held in Nias Utara. The participants who pass the selection of this upgrading will take apprentice in FMIPA-IPB for two weeks to learn some skills, especially material preparation and practical implementation. The teachers who have been involved in apprentice will then be expected to be agents of change for other teachers and the teaching of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (biology, physics, chemistry, integrated science, and mathematics) in SMP / SMA / SMK (Junior/Senior/Vocational High Schools) in Nias Utara.
