KPU Targeted 75 Percent
General Election Commission (KPU) in collaboration with Directorate of Student Affairs Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) held the Socialization of KPU Goes to Campus, Wednesday (4/12), in Campus of IPB Dramaga. That was done by KPU in order to the Enhancement of the Public Participation of Voters in the General Election 2014.
Head of Section of the Development of Public Participation, Titi Prihati Wahyuningsih conveyed that the public participant was the benchmark of electoral success. KPU targeted the public participant of 75 percent. To achieve this, KPU did the hard work. KPU’s own effort was including the cooperation with the academics because many first voters were in the university. “IPB is the 26th university attended directly by KPU for socialization. The target is seven universities more,” she said.
Meanwhile, Director of Student Affairs of IPB, Dr. Rinekso in his welcome speech conveyed his gratitude for IPB to be chosen as the target of socialization. Further, he conveyed the importance of student’s participation in the general election so the presence of KPU at IPB could give information and enlightenment to the General Election 2014. Dr. Rinekso added that the students were the potential voters. The students of IPB who were active at the moment ranged between 24 – 27 thousands. That had not been coupled by their families.
Students were expected to become the funnel of the importance of General Election especially in the present situation. The students should also socialize to colleagues and closest relatives. Besides the socialization, the other way was by promoting the system of Direct, Public, Free, Confidential (LUBER) and Honest and Fair.
In the socialization of KPU it was delivered that the cases which often occured to the students were they did not go home during the general election. Because, the voter identity card was sent based on the residence.
According to Head of Technical Bureau and Public Relations, Secretary General of KPU, Sigit Joyowardono,SH, conveyed that the case example was where the students listed in the Fixed Voter Data (DPT) in East Java, while he studied at IPB. “Do not have to worry. Just a litte to take the time to the sub-subdistrict (kelurahan) or village in East Java or in the DPT. Request a certificate for moving to elect and be filled with the purpose of moving to elect wherein,” said Sigit. This socialization event was attended by around 300 students.(dh)
