News

Plenty of senior citizens (elderly) who became  beggars on the street, has attracted the attention of Mr Amin, a caller from Parung, Bogor Regency, in the  Interactive Dialogue broadcasted  by  RRI Bogor, with the theme "To Welcome the Elderly Day,  29 May 2011", on Tuesday, 10  May 2011.  "Poor those elderlies, in their old age they have to work as beggars. They should rest at home. It seems that there are those who take advantage of the old ages  to become street beggars, "said Amin.

Mr Cario from Ciomas, Bogor Regency, pitied on the increase of number of parents who are neglected or even are deliberately abandoned, "who are really responsible for the survival of these parents, their own children or the government?" she said with a tone of fury.

To respond such situation, the elderly expert from IPB, Ir. Hangesti, M.Sc., who was invited as the dialogue speaker, stated that the family is the best place to serve the life of elderly people. But for the lonely ones,  it is the responsibility of the government as the main source in  protecting them.

Ir. Hangesti explained, the Elderly people is the repository of knowledge and experiences. Attention of  both their children and grandchildren, let’s say by listening to their hearts, have comforted  and provided  positive value for them.

"Encourage the spirit of the Elderly people to make their life useful, and while they continue to  love each other. Our treatment to the elderly becomes a mirror for our children and grandchildren in the future to treat us. Therefore, we should respect and treat well our parents who took care of us, "added Ir. Hangesti, M.Sc. (Wied).
