Asnawati and Ela Badriyah are two middle-aged women, who serve as a model of empowering Kartini or emancipated women today. Both were selected by the Center for Human Resource Development (P2SDM), Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) IPB, as the resource persons in the Evening Dialogue of RRI Bogor, on Tuesday (19 / 4).

Asnawati is a cadre of Family Empowerment Post (Posdaya) of Kenanga, Village of Situ Gede, while Ela Badriyah is a cadre of Posdaya Bina Sejahtera, Village of Pasir Mulya, in the District of West Bogor.

A researcher of P2SDM LPPM IPB, Ir. Mintarti, M.Sc., who accompanied the two women, said that both are considered to have successfully disseminated their skills to their neighborhoods. Asnawati has succeeded in turning the wheels of the economy especially the mothers around the neighborhood, through the Women Farmers Group “Sawargi”, which successfully process taro of Bogor into various foods increasingly popular worldwide.

This is no doubt as taro lunkhead or candies and taro chips, for example, often participate in exhibitions both at home and abroad. Even for some employees of CIFOR (a research center of the world’s forests located in Situ Gede), who are from the Netherlands, the two snacks are the compulsory treats when they return to their home country.

Meanwhile Ela Badriyah is the pioneer in the establishment of Early Childhood Education in her neighborhood. With high motivation, in the middle of 2008, she started the education with ten pupils from poor families. Until now at least there are 50 children she has successfully invited to take the early childhood education.

"I use the house garage for the early childhood education", Ela said during the dialogue session led by H. Mukhlis Abdilla, a senior presenter of RRI Bogor.

Ir. Mintarti, M.Sc., at the end of the dialogue emphasized that the concrete role of a woman is when she is successful in improving the quality of family and surrounding communities with the capacity she possesses. (Mtd)
