Lively Festival of Plants
Department of Agriculture and Horticulture and in cooperation with the Association of Agronomy Students (HIMAGRON) of IPB held the 31th Plant Festival with the theme, "Go Organic 2010?",at Agropromo, Baranangsiang Campus of IPB (10-12/12), Bogor.
The festival was enliven with various activities, for examples, a Contest of Loving Organic Agriculture (Natural), Agricultural Products (Exhibition & Contest), Talk-Show Day of Organic Agriculture, and A Day with Horticulture and Agronomy Department, Faculty of Agriculture IPB (Health).
In the Exhibition & Contest, some organic agricultural products were displayed including other products resulting from organic methods of farming, among others organic vegetables such as organic Pakcoy, red cabbage, spinach, and rice as well as organic fertilizers, and other organic supporting products.
In his speech, Head of the ‘Agrohot’ Department, Dr. Ir. Agus Purwito, said the demand of the society for a healthy life without chemicals is increasing, thus requiring that agriculture minimize agricultural chemicals in the process, one of which is organic farming.
"We’re trying to socialize the importance of organic farming to the community, starting from kindergarten education to universities," he said.
According to him, this festival will not stop in this year only, but it will be developed with new and bigger ideas of organic farming in the future.
"We’ll more frequently socialize the importance of organic agriculture for human health. The activities would be of non-profit, in addition we will also assist the government in socializing organic agriculture," he said. (mtd)
