Training Course on Agropreneur for the West Java Youth

A total of 200  agribusinessmen  from various regions in West Java, undertook  the Intensive Training Course on entrepreneurship for freshwater fishes and animal husbandry, organized by West Java Provincial Government in cooperation with Bogor Agricultural University. The national event, which was planned to foster entrepreneurial spirit of youth in West Java was held from 31 October –  20 December 2010 at two different locations.

"We provide wider vision and innovations on business, to enable them to look at  agriculture, fisheries, animal husbandry  at large. As result, they could apprehend the economy aspect of agriculture  as their prospective future, "said Dean of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Dr. Ir. Luki Abdullah, M.Sc., Agr., in the interview at  UP3 Jonggol, Friday, 26 November 2010.

Dean also stated  that the training course was  to prepare the youth as a special generation which provide special food in West Java. Meanwhile, training coordinator for livestock, Mr. Nahrowi,  expected that  the youth who participated the course will be able to take  business opportunities in their community.

"This Training Course  is a pilot project  for youth in the business freshwater fisheries and agribusiness farms," he stated. Further, he explained, that  for the year 2011, the Governor of West Java, asking the University to organize such trainnig course for two batches of particpants.

In the interview, one of the  training participants,  Cecep Nurahman from Cianjur, explained that  the course not only provide him theory or practical works,  but also trained him mental discipline and how to become entrepreneurs.

"We’re not only trained with knowledge on animal husbandry, but also with other innovations that I did not know before. Let’s say, how to process animal manures for  biogas, or animal feed from the wet market wastes, "he said. In addition, through the training course he either learn theories or practical works, but also how to present business plans to funding organization.

Prior to undertake such course,  those 200 participants were undegone through tough selection by  Provincial Animal Husbandry Service of West Java.  For animal husbandry, the course was concentrated in Education and Research Unit of Animal Husbandry (UP3), Singasari Village, District Jonggol. While for Fisheries, it was concentrated in Yayasan Pengembangan Insan Pertanian Indonesia (Insan Foundation for Indonesian Agricultural Development),  located in Ciapus, Ciomas District, Bogor Regency.
