Inauguration  of  ISFA-IPB Labshool Building for Character Education  of

One of the obligations that must be carried out  by parents and educators is to preserve and teach moral values to children. Inculcated moral values will shape the character (of noble character) and an important foundation for the formation of human resources and a society a civilized and prosperous nation in achieving progress.

This was described by Rector of Bogor Agricultural University, Prof. Dr. Ir. Herry Suhardiyanto, M.Sc., when he inaugurated the Labschool Building for Character Education of IPB-ISFA, at the handover ceremony of the building from Indonesia Singapore Friendship Association (ISFA) to the University, on 8 November 2010,  in Cikabuyutan, East Bogor, Bogor.

"There are signs of eras bywhich  we have to pay attention,  whenever such  era arrives,  it means that a nation was heading for destruction. The signs are, the increase of violence among teenagers, the use of bad words and language, a strong peer group influence in violence, increasing self-destructive behavior (drug use, alcohol and sex), the vague of good moral guidance, lower work ethic, the lack of respect to parents and teachers, dishonesty and a sense of suspicion and hatred among fellow, "stated Rector.

Rector stated, that the establishment of Lab school of IPB-ISFA for Character Education is expected to strengthen the role of the University in building the nation’s character, through the Character Education and research programs that generate innovative research related to character education.

Meanwhile, Dean of the Faculty of Human Ecology (FEMA), Dr. Arief Satria, said that  the importance of character development in the upstream level. "Higher Education is the terminal in character education at the downstream level, however, more important than that is the character development at the upstream level," he said.

According to him, in addition to Labschool, there are many programs that will be developed by Faculty of Human Ecology (FEMA) Bogor Agricultural University, one of which will be the development of  clinic on family nutritional counseling.

Handover of Labschool Building

Meanwhile, after delivering his remarks, the delegate of ISFA, Mr. M. Nur M. Sahid and Rector of Bogor Agricultural University signed the document of the handover of the building from  ISFA to the University. It should be noted that the agreement between ISFA and Bogor Agricultural University has been signed by both parties on 7 November 2007.

Programs on Early Childhood Educational Center (ECC), which is developed currently  was the establishment of IPB-ISFA Early Child Education and the Development of Labschool (hereinafter referred to as IPB- ISFA Labschool for Character Education) was initiated to provide services to children and their families in developing their pre-school children as well as strengthening the family institution. This Labschool is Academic Business Unit (SUA) in the neighborhood of the University. Its organization is in accordance with the scientific competence of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences (CCI), Faculty of Human Ecology (FEMA), that support students’ scientific competence of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences (CCI),  in their research programs and development studies in family science, child and consumer.

One scope of the activities that has  been developed currently is the early childhood education,  which is implemented in several programs, namely, kindergarten, playgroup, After School Programs, and Day Care.
 
Representative of the Indonesia Heritage Foundation (IHF), Sofyan Djalil, Ph.D., delegations of the Republic of Indonesia to Singapore, Mr. Wardana, Secretary of the City of Bogor, Mr. Bambang Gunawan, and Director of the ISFA Dr.Ir. Dwi Hastuti, M.Sc. were there to witness this special occasion. (Wied)
