Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), through the Center for Human Resources Development (P2SDM), LPPM IPB, conducts nutritional education at the Family Empowerment Post (Posdaya), Semper Campus, Girimulya, Bogor Regency.

The 5th meeting of the training was at the Secretariat of Posdaya, which is also a small mosque called Musholla Al Furqan, in the Village of Semper, (13/11). It is one of the activities of P2SDM with the aim to improve the nutritional quality of children and mothers and improve child care.

The participants, mostly young mothers, are given lessons and knowledge about nutrition and child care. They are taught to make nutritious food with ingredients that exist in their home environment, and also about good parenting. There are around 30 participants, mostly members of Posyandu (Integrated Service Post) in the village.

"This training is an additional knowledge of nutrition to the mothers here. So, they go to Posyandu not only to weigh babies and go home just like that, but they are given some knowledge of nutrition, diet, and parenting so that they can improve the nutritional status of children and families," said Ir. Mintarti, MS., from the Division of Community Empowerment, P2SDM LPPM IPB, amid the activity.

To complement this nutritional class, Susie Hartati, a nutritionist of Puskesmas (Community Health Center) of Pasir Mulya, was present. She is the second winner in competition of the Posyandu empowerment through nutritional training.

"I hope this nutritional training can be adopted in every Posyandu; and its activities must be sustainable and do not stop on the way," he added. (mtd)
