RRI Evening Dialogue: IPB Teams of Crantz and Zuper T Present Excellent Products

IPB students who are members of the team ‘Crantz’ and ‘Zuper T’ and won the First and Second Champions in International Competition of Food Technology in 10th Institute of Food Technologists Annual Meeting and Food Expo in Chicago last July, described their excellent products during the Evening Dialogue in the Radio of Republic of Indonesia (RRI), Tuesday (10 / 8). The Crantz Team consists of some students from the Department of Food Science and Technology, Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Bogor Agricultural University, namely Saffiera Karleen, Margaret Octavia, Stefanus, and Agus Danang Wibowo.

This team [resented its scientific work and finding about the breakfast cereal called "Crantz". Meanwhile Zuper-T team consists of five students from the same department, namely Zulfahnur, Henni Septiana, Laras Aryandini, Helena Widyasitoresmi, and Eri Suhesti. Zuper-T team presented their findings in the form of puff cereal made of tempeh, bananas, and corn as healthy snacks at an affordable price.

 "The Crantz product has several advantages, namely without a preservative, from local raw materials, natural flavor, practical, affordable prices, and higher in protein than a single product," said Margaret. Protein content reaches 20 percent. This high content of protein is because of the presence of soy in the mixture. Raw materials that are easily available can improve the community nutrition, especially the children in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). In NTT, cassava is not optimally used as the staple food and a source of carbohydrates, but according to Margaret the type of cassava there is of high quality. "The cassava from NTT is often marketed in Java and Sulawesi," said Margaret accompanied by Saffiera. Its shelf life or storage can reach seven months when it is stored in aluminum foil without vacuum. It is sweet with natural flavor of Ambon green bananas.

Crantz is a highly prospective product for an industrial scale development. A package (50 grams) of is sold at Rp. 2500, -.

Similarly, the product made the Team Zuper T, a combination of banana flour, corn flour and tempe (made from soybean) flour is an extruder that kids love. "Its nutrient content is not less than that of other snacks. Zuper can be an alternative healthy snack food, without preservatives, natural taste and affordable price. One package of Zuper contains 30 grams priced as Rp. 1500, -," explained Barrel Aryandini. The supervisors for Teams Crantz and Zuper T consist of several lecturers of IPB, namely Dr. Dahrul Shah, Prof. Purwiyatno Hariyadi, Dr. Ratih Dewanti Hariyadi, Dr Eko Hari Purnomo, and Dr. Feri Kusnandar.
