Department of Management, Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) IPB University organised The 7th Sustainable Agrifood Management in Indonesia (SAMI) Summer Course with the theme 'Agrifood System Transformation Under Climate Risk in Emerging Economy'. This activity was attended by 85 participants from 11 countries and 23 universities, both national and international.

With a hybrid organisation scheme, 28 participants attended offline. They came from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Afghanistan. The remaining online participants came from Malaysia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Liberia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, Vietnam and Myanmar.

Participants who attended offline followed a series of field trips to several institutions, including the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), Edufarmers International, PT Danone Indonesia in Sukabumi, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Representative and PT BRI in Jakarta, Agribusiness and Technology Park (ATP) and Science Techno Park (STP) IPB University. Participants also visited Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII).

On the last day of the activity, participants took part in the final round of the SAMI Essay Contest which was attended by 16 groups. This activity is a place for participants to show their ability to write essays and posters with a theme similar to The 7th SAMI Summer Course 2023. The output of this activity can increase student achievement on an international scale.

"This is the first time for the Management Department of IPB University to organise a hybrid activity. Only armed with strong intentions and determination from the committee, although the ability to carry out a hybrid scheme like this has never been done to organise international-scale activities," said Dr Wita Juwita Ermawati, Chairperson of the Management Department of IPB University.

However, she said, this became a very valuable experience when the participants really enjoyed this activity. The participants were immersed in joy and sorrow and seemed reluctant to part. There were special performances from representatives of participants from Malaysia and Indonesia which further enlivened the atmosphere. An amazing journey and experience was expressed by the participants, especially for those who came online to IPB Dramaga Campus to participate in this activity.

Achievements were also made by IPB University students in the SAMI Essay Contest. There were at least 11 out of 14 winners in this activity obtained by IPB University students, including 4 categories of best group essay, 4 categories of best group poster, 2 categories of best delegation and 1 category of best oral presenter.

"Of course we would also like to thank the Directorate of International Education of IPB University for giving the Department of Management the trust to organise The 7th SAMI Summer Course 2023 and the Directorate of Student Affairs for facilitating the implementation of the SAMI Essay Contest," concluded Dr Wita.
