Department of Physics IPB University Holds Science Demo and Strengthening Teacher Competence at SMPN 1 Wonosobo

The Physics Department of IPB University conducted a science demo for junior high school students and strengthened teacher competence on Saturday, 2/12 at SMPN 1 Wonosobo, Central Java. The activity was carried out in parallel in a series of training and competition “Science Camp” initiated by the Science Teacher Consultative Meeting (MGMP) of Wonosobo Regency.

There was also the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Physics Department of IPB University and MGMP IPA Wonosobo Regency related to ongoing cooperation to improve and strengthen the competence of science teachers in Wonosobo Regency through various activities such as workshops, training and science demonstrations.

Chairman of MGMP IPA SMP Wonosobo Regency, Hidayat, in his speech expressed his appreciation for the presence of the IPB University Physics Department team to provide training to teachers and students. “We hope this activity will continue in the following years. Both offline and online,” he said.

Prof Tony Sumaryada, Chairman of the Physics Department of IPB University revealed that it is the obligation of universities to always oversee and pay attention to the progress of education in Indonesia.

“We are grateful for the very good welcome from the MGMP Science teachers and especially SMPN 1 Wonosobo. The signing of today’s collaboration also supports the sustainability of this community service activity in the future,” said Prof Tony.

The activity entitled Strengthening Competence in Physics for Junior High School Science Teachers in Wonosobo Regency was welcomed by dozens of junior high school science teachers. Various materials were delivered by Physics Department lecturers who are competent in their fields.

Meanwhile, the physics demo activity was held in the hall of SMPN 1 Wonosobo and attended by selected junior high school students in Wonosobo Regency who were representatives of their schools to compete. (*/Lp) (IAAS/SHY)
