Times Higher Education (THE) released the Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2025. Based on the ranking, IPB University ranks first in Indonesia.
Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria said that IPB University has committed to support the development of interdisciplinary science.
“It is proven that IPB University has physical facilities to support interdisciplinary research including laboratories, main libraries, as well as incubators, and innovation hubs,” he said when giving a statement (13/1).
He elaborated, physical facilities to support interdisciplinary research at IPB University include sophisticated and integrated laboratories, main libraries, incubators and innovation hubs, living laboratories (university forests, educational farms/plantations, marine cultivation stations, in situ conservation sites, and others).
Currently, IPB University also has field laboratories such as CRC900-BEE in Jambi (about 100 hectares), Gunung Walat University Forest (359 ha); Jonggol Innovation Valley (268 ha), and Tinjil Island.

IPB University incentivizes interdisciplinary research by offering grant support for publications and citations, especially for academic staff who publish in journals covering various disciplines,” he said.
The Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2025 is the first of its kind, the result of THE’s collaboration with Schmidt Science Fellows. This ranking is the first attempt of its kind to measure universities’ contribution and commitment to interdisciplinary science.
A total of 749 universities from 92 countries/regions were ranked. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is the world’s number one university in interdisciplinary science. Stanford University and the National University of Singapore came second and third, respectively.
There are 11 carefully calibrated performance indicators to assess institutions in three key areas, each representing a stage in the lifecycle of a research project: inputs (funding); processes (measures of success, facilities, administrative support and promotion); and outputs (publications, research quality and reputation).
