Closing Odd Semester, SPs IPB University Holds Studium Generale Presents Professors from Japan

Closing the lecture at the end of the odd semester, the Graduate School (SPs) of IPB University held a Studium Generale (SG) in collaboration with two courses entitled “Introduction for Landscape Ecology and Local Resource Management”.

The course is Ecology and Dynamics of Natural Resource and Environmental Management System (PSL150A) from the Natural Resources and Environmental Management (PSL) Study Program (PSL) in collaboration with the Sustainable Landscape Management (ARL1531) course from the Landscape Architecture Study Program (ARL).

Carried out in a hybrid way, the SG offline session was held in the Seminar Room of the ARL Department of IPB University. Meanwhile, online sessions are conducted online through the Zoom Meeting platform.

The participants who attended offline consisted of 20 S2 ARL semester 1 students who came from regular and synergy classes. In addition, 18 students at the S1, S2, and S3 levels under the guidance of Prof Hadi also attended the activity.

Meanwhile on the Zoom Meeting platform, as many as 82 PSL semester 1 students from regular programs, special classes, and by research programs were present there.

Furthermore, three lecturers who attended online, namely Dr Nurhayati and Dr Kaswanto, both of whom were the Chairman of Study Program (Kaprodi) and Secretary of the Study Program (Sekprodi) of the Master of ARL, as well as ARL lecturer Prita Ayu Permatasari, MSi.

Prof Hadi Susilo Arifin, Chairman of the PSL Master’s Study Program as well as the Chairman of the Landscape Management Division of IPB University acted as the host professor in the activity.

He said, “This activity is intended for students to gain in-depth insight into the importance of landscape ecology and sustainable local resource management, especially in facing current global challenges,” he said.

The guest professor who was invited to this activity was Prof Koji Harashina from the United Graduate School of Agriculture Science (UGAS), Iwate University, Japan.

“I feel very happy to be a guest lecturer here. This is the first experience of being a guest lecturer at IPB University. My hope is that this will be the first step in the initiation of educational cooperation between the Graduate School (SPs) of IPB University and UGAS Iwate University,” said Prof Harashina who is also the Associate Dean of UGAS.

The participants, both in the seminar room and the Zoom platform, actively participated in the discussion session by asking various questions. This shows their enthusiasm in receiving the material discussed.

Prof Hadi said, “This SG is the first step in following academic and research collaboration between SPs IPB University and UGAS Iwate University.”

After the activity, Prof Hadi and Prof Harashina immediately headed to the Rectorate Building to meet with the Dean of SPs, the Director of the Directorate of Global Cooperation (DKG), and the Chairman of the Program and the Secretary of the PSL Doctoral Program to discuss the memorandum of understanding (MoU) of both parties.
