Chief of the Regional Institute of Science and Technology (LKST) IPB University, Prof Erika B Laconi revealed, downstream innovation in the Promoting Research and Innovation Through Modern And Efficient and Technology Parks Project (PRIMESTeP) program, increasing support from the industry, especially from the funding aspect.

“This year IPB University manages 53 billion funds. The funds received for downstreamisation are not one to one (1:1), but become one to two (1:2). So the industry gives more to us. This means that innovation is in demand by the public,” he said.

Furthermore, Prof Erika said, there are 10 IPB University innovations that have received the PRIMESTeP program experiencing innovation acceleration until it reaches the market. She said, until now there are a total of 75 commercialisations of innovations with licenses that have been developed by STP IPB University.

In addition, there are 9 startups that passed from 400 startups that participated in the selection. The selection is done directly from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) reviewer team.

“In the period of 2014 to 2023, from startups that received the coaching of Science Techno Park (STP) of IPB University, there was an increase in the workforce of up to 40 percent,” she explained. She hopes that this program can continue and can deliver IPB University’s work to the community.

In 2025, she projected STP IPB University will become a complete ecosystem with the construction of the Halal Centre building.

“STP IPB University can become a complete ecosystem unity, starting from the existence of invention protection. Halal Centre can also scale up startups,” she said.

PRIMESTeP Program Manager, Prof Paulina Pannen conveyed the importance of downstreaming innovation so that the nation does not become a consumer of products from abroad. She added that the nation’s economic progress depends on innovators and startups, so both have an important role.

“STP IPB University can be a reference for universities that will build STP,” she said.

On the same occasion, Prof Deni Noviana, Vice Rector of IPB University for Education and Student Affairs explained the history of the formation of STP IPB University until it became a complete ecosystem.

“IPB University has a strong history of innovation research. For many years we have always received the most research issued by the Business Innovation Centre,” she said.

Therefore, he continued, it is important to supervise this matter, starting from the management of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), startup development, to the establishment of STP today.

The Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria in his speech also conveyed the importance of bridging the industry and universities. In addition, many research results must also be bridged so that innovation can be felt by the wider community. Therefore, the existence of STP becomes important and needed. (*/Rz) (IAAS/TIA)
