IPB University Vocational School students from the Digital Communication and Media Program held a Village Campus program entitled “D’Nutri (‘Dapur Nutrisi dan Inovasi’)” at the Gudang Village Hall. This Village Campus program is a community empowerment initiative, especially in the health aspect.

Citra Ayu Shafinas, one of the student representatives, explained that this program was carried out as a first step in implementing healthy living starting from reducing processed foods which would later be practiced directly to add new experiences for the community.

Changes in people’s consumption patterns in recent decades have shown a high increase in the consumption of ultra processed foods (UPF). UPF are foods that have gone through various industrial processes and generally contain additives, such as preservatives, artificial flavors, high sugar, salt and fat content.

“Consuming UPF foods in excess can increase the risk of various diseases. The lack of public awareness of the dangers of UPF and the lack of knowledge about healthy eating patterns has led to higher consumption of processed foods,” Citra said.

According to her, public awareness of the negative impact of UPF foods is still relatively low. People tend to choose food based on practicality and good taste without considering its nutritional content and long-term impact on health.

Low understanding of the importance of a healthy diet, lack of information on natural and nutritious food ingredients has led to the high consumption of UPF foods in people’s daily lives.

This, said Citra, is an important concern that must be addressed immediately, especially considering the health impacts on the community, especially the younger generation who are easily exposed to unhealthy lifestyles.

“With the Village Campus program, it is hoped that the community in Gudang Village can better understand the dangers of UPF food through counseling and solutions that can be done through workshops,” she hoped.

The event was attended by Lurah Gudang, Assistant Lecturer of Information Dissemination Course, Secretary of Lurah, two resource persons, and the community of Kelurahan Gudang. The event began with counseling from the first speaker, Clarista Carenth Novianti, a nutritionist at the Bogor City Regional General Hospital (RSUD).

Clarista explained the importance of giving real food to children, rather than UPF food, because of the long-term effects such as kidney failure and even early death.

After the presentation of the material, the event continued with a demonstration of dim sum making as an implementation of the material previously presented. The demonstration was guided by Siti Patimah, an alumnus of IPB University Vocational School from the Food Quality Assurance Supervisor Study Program, as well as the winner of the 1st National Achievement Student 2024.

Siti Patimah gave a demonstration of making healthy dimsum, which is a healthy food alternative without UPF. This dim sum making demonstration was carried out with Gudang Village women, from posyandu cadres to other general public. It is hoped that this event can provide long-term benefits, especially for the health of Kelurahan Gudang residents. (*/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
