She hopes that voters who come to the polling station can choose prospective leaders according to their conscience to determine the direction of policy for the next five years.
“We hope that the ladies and gentlemen who come today can pass on to their relatives at home to come tomorrow on November 27 at 07.00 to 13.00 WIB according to their respective polling stations,” said the alumnus of the Faculty of Animal Science (Fapet) IPB University batch 38.
The Socialization of Voter Education presented two speakers, one of whom was the Vice Rector of IPB University in the field of Resource Resilience and Infrastructure, Dr Alim Setiawan Slamet. In his presentation, Dr Alim revealed the reasons for citizens to use their voting rights and tips for becoming smart voters.
Dr Alim explained that there are three urgencies to use the right to vote in the 2024 elections. First, it is a form of participation in democracy. By exercising the right to vote, the community participates in determining the direction of policies and leaders who will lead the government.
“Quality democracy is followed by high participation with the community using their voting rights. If democratic participation is very low, this becomes an issue of legitimacy of the leaders we choose,” said Dr Alim.
The second urgency is to determine the future of the region. Elected leaders will make important decisions regarding development, education, health, economy and other sectors. By choosing competent leaders, the community plays a role in building a good future for the region and future generations.
Related to being a smart and wise voter, Dr Alim invited the IPB University academic community who had the right to vote to analyze the vision, mission, and work program of the candidate pair before voting at the polling station. Then in determining prospective leaders must also use credible information and prioritize the interests of the wider community.
In addition to Dr Alim, Fortendik IPB University and KPU West Java also presented other speakers, namely the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Advanced Nusantara Vision Study Institute, Dr Yusfitriadi. (MHT/Rz) (IAAS/HLF)
