Collaboration between Department of PSP IPB University and DUDI in Sustainable Development of Shrimp Resources
The Department of Fisheries Resource Utilization (PSP) initiated a collaboration between PT Dwi Budi Utama (DBU)-a shrimp fishing industry located in Sorong, Papua-and the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK) of IPB University.
The signing of the cooperation was held with the Dean of FPIK IPB University, Prof Fredinan Yulianda and Director of PT DBU, Nobuyuki Sasaki in Bogor (19/11). The event was attended by the heads of departments and lecturers of FPIK.
“The purpose of signing this cooperation agreement is to increase collaboration in research and development of marine resources, especially the use of environmentally friendly shrimp trawl gear,” said the Chairman of the PSP Department, Prof Eko Sri Wiyono in his speech.
He added that this collaboration was initiated by the PSP Department based on the need to optimize the sustainable use of marine resources. PT DBU, as a company engaged in fisheries, is committed to supporting education and research in the marine sector for the sustainability of marine ecosystems.
Dean of FPIK IPB University, Prof Fredinan Yulianda, said that cooperation between academics and business and industry (DUDI) is seen as a strategic step in overcoming challenges in the fisheries sector, especially in terms of sustainability.
“By involving lecturers and students in real projects, it is expected to give birth to a new generation that is ready to face the dynamics of the fisheries industry,” he said.
On the same occasion, Director of PT DBU, Nobuyuki Sasaki conveyed the importance of collaboration between academia and industry. This collaboration, according to him, will not only benefit FPIK students, but also the fishing industry as a whole. For example, in the provision of data, the use of environmentally friendly technology, policy implementation and various research needed to increase productivity.
With the signing of this collaboration, PT DBU and FPIK IPB University are committed to continuing to establish a mutually beneficial relationship. Hopefully, this collaboration will bring positive impacts not only for both parties but also for the wider community through the sustainable development of marine resources. (*/Rz) (IAAS/ZQA)
