CCROM IPB University Successfully Holds 1st ISCCROM, Highlighting Critical Issues of Climate Change
The Center for Climate Change Risk and Opportunity Management in Southeast Asia Pacific (CCROM SEAP), in collaboration with the Environmental Research Institute and Climate Change (LRI LPI) IPB University, has successfully organized the “1st International Seminar on Climate Change, Air Quality, and Urban Forest (ISCCROM)”.
Taking place at the Royal Padjajaran Hotel, Bogor (8/11), the event was attended by experts, researchers, lecturers, students, and practitioners who discussed critical issues related to climate change and its impacts in various sectors.
The event opened with remarks from Prof Iskandar Zulkarnaen Siregar, Vice Rector of IPB University for Global Connectivity, Collaboration, and Alumni Relations. Dr Rini Hidayati, Director of CCROM IPB University, was also present to give a welcoming remark, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in climate change research and risk management.
Among the keynote speakers, Prof Dwikorita Karnawati, Chief of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), reminded the importance of accurate data collection and analysis to understand climate change patterns. “Without solid data, mitigation and adaptation measures cannot be implemented effectively,” she said.
Meanwhile, Prof Rizaldi Boer, Chief of LRI LPI IPB University, highlighted the need for concrete and collaborative steps between the government, academia, and society to face the increasingly urgent challenges of climate change.
The seminar also featured speakers from various international institutions, including Dr Yukio Terao from Japan’s National Institute for Environmental Study (NIES), Dr Ardhasena Sopaheluwakan from BMKG, Dr Rr Laras Toersilowati from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Prof Margarita Redina from the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN), and Dr Kathleen Beyer from the University of Tasmania, Australia.
Discussions in this seminar focused on various important topics, such as the impact of climate change on ecosystems, food security, health, and air quality issues as a result of climate change. The event was closed by Dr I Putu Santikayasa, Executive Secretary of CCROM, who gave the closing remarks and emphasized the future steps that need to be taken to deal with the challenges faced due to climate change.
The seminar participants engaged in a constructive dialog, sharing insights and research findings aimed at finding solutions to the challenges faced, especially in facing the challenges and opportunities of climate change impacts. This seminar activity is expected to strengthen cross-disciplinary collaboration in an effort to achieve environmental sustainability in the face of climate change impacts both at the local and national scale.
