Through KKRL IPB University, PKSPL Builds Embryo Arboretum Coral Reef
Scientific Diver Center for the Study of Coastal and Ocean Resources (PKSPL) IPB University conducted a survey to determine the location of coral reef transplantation in the Marine Space Suitability Confirmation (KKRL) area of IPB University which is located in the waters of Semak Daun Kepulauan Seribu, DKI Jakarta (6-8/11).
Coordinator of Scientific Diver PKSPL IPB University, Muhammad Qustam Sahibuddin said, this step is a strong commitment of PKSPL IPB University in obedience to carry out the obligations that have been assigned through the KKRL permit given by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) of the Republic of Indonesia on November 15, 2021.
“This is a form of IPB University’s commitment through PKSPL to improve the quality of the coral reef ecosystem at the KKRL IPB University location,” explained Muhammad Qustam Sahibuddin.
He further explained, this activity is carried out in two stages. “In the first stage, we and our team first determine the appropriate location for coral reef transplantation. Then in the second phase, we carry out the coral reef transplant activity, which is planned to be carried out in 2025.”
Aditya Bramandito as Dive Leader Scientific Diver PKSPL IPB University added, after the coral reef transplant location is determined, the next step is to select the type of coral that is suitable for the location.
“The next step, we will use a transplant media in the form of PVC which contains 16 coral fragments. As for the area that will be used as a transplant location of 100 square meters,” added Aditya.
In the future, in addition to being a mandatory for the KKRL permit obtained by IPB University, the location is also designed as an embryo of the coral reef arboretum. This location is also a supporting field station for researchers in the field of conservation and coral reef ecosystems.
