IPB University Vocational School lecturers from the Environmental Engineering and Management Study Program carry out community service programs related to processing sandal waste into paving blocks. This activity aims to educate the community of Mulyaharja Village, Bogor City about the importance of processing waste into useful products.

This program also gives an appeal to the community not to throw sandal waste into water bodies which will cause water pollution or burn it which will cause air pollution.

“We explained the processing of sandal waste into paving blocks. They also received training related to making paving blocks. They seemed very enthusiastic because the innovation given was very interesting and unusual,” said Dr Beata Ratnawati, a lecturer at IPB University Vocational School who was involved.

“I have a sandal-making workshop, so I was very excited to participate in this service, because I learned that the sandal waste I produce can be turned into unusual items such as paving blocks. So far, I have burned the waste or if someone wants to buy it, I sell it,” explained Anung Gunawan as the owner of the sandal workshop.

“I am very grateful to the Environmental Engineering and Management Study Program of IPB University for providing a very good processing innovation. I hope this innovation can also reduce the unemployment rate in Mulyaharja Village,” said Rosani as the representative of Mulyaharja Village.

“However, my advice is to increase the waste content rather than cement and sand because the costs incurred will swell,” she suggested. (*/Rz) (IAAS/Aly)
