IPB University’s NITW’s SDGs Summer School Becomes an Event for NIT Wakayama Students to Learn about Indonesia
IPB University successfully held the NITW’s SDGs Summer School program. This activity was attended by 7 students from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Wakayama, Japan, and 6 students from IPB University. This program was accompanied by Dr Beginer Subhan (IPB University-NIT Wakayama), Prof Yuichi Akasaki (NIT Wakayama), and Dr Arisa Kawasaki (NIT Wakayama).
With the theme ‘National Institute of Technology (KOSEN), Wakayama College Learns About Indonesia’s SDGs Initiatives: From the Mountains to the Sea’, participants explored various aspects of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) initiatives in Indonesia.
The program began with a visit to IPB University’s Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK). Here, the participants were introduced to the Marine Instrumentation and Robotics laboratory at the Department of Marine Science and Technology (ITK), as well as the experimental ponds at the Department of Aquaculture (BDP). NIT Wakayama students seemed enthusiastic about learning marine technology developed at IPB University.
The activity continued with a trip to Pramuka Island, Kepulauan Seribu, Jakarta. Participants learned about coastal culture, snorkeling on Water Island, and turtle conservation in the Thousand Islands National Park. One of the main activities was coral reef restoration training with Smiling Coral Indonesia Community. In this activity, participants were invited to be directly involved in efforts to preserve marine ecosystems.
In addition, participants visited Sindangbarang Cultural Village, Bogor, to learn about Sundanese culture, including traditional dances, music, food and games. This provided a deeper insight into Indonesia’s cultural diversity.
Prof Yuichi Akasaki, Director of International Cooperation at NIT Wakayama, expressed his gratitude to IPB University. “We are very grateful for the willingness of IPB University to accept our students to study here,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Dean of FPIK IPB University, Prof Fredinan Yulianda, welcomed this program and hoped that cooperation between the two institutions could continue.
Dr Syamsul Bahri Agus, Chairman of the ITK Department of IPB University also expressed his hope that NIT Wakayama students would gain valuable experience while at IPB University and bring a positive impression of Indonesia. (*/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
