Faculty of Animal Science IPB University Collaborates with PT SMK for Animal Feed Pilot Plant
The Faculty of Animal Science (Fapet) of IPB University is collaborating with PT Santana Manggala Karya (PT SMK). This collaboration is to build a pilot plant at the Jonggol Animal Science Education and Research Unit (UP3J).
The signing of the Cooperation Agreement (PKS) took place in the Conference Room of the Faculty of Animal Science, IPB Dramaga Campus. Vice Dean of Fapet IPB University for Resources, Cooperation, and Development Dr Sri Suharti said, “The cooperation that will be implemented is the construction of a pilot plant at UP3J whose agreement has been discussed,” she explained.
In the future, PT SMK will operate the land containing the building in UP3J and improve it to become a proper cage. The utilisation of the factory is a means of education, training, research, and community service for lecturers and students of IPB University, especially Fapet, as well as a means of commercially producing ready-to-eat animal feed.
Dean of Fapet IPB University, Dr Idat Galih Permana said that this collaboration is a commitment to make Jonggol innovation centre which is now being launched as IPB Jonggol Innovation Valley.
“IPB University is very concerned about utilising Jonggol land. We continue to coordinate regarding plans when to start renovations, start production, hope that there will be a grand opening to show Jonggol continues to move and there is a kind of showroom,” he said.
“This cooperation is not only business but also academic, so that students can learn and participate in internships. In addition, in the future there are nutrition people who understand and there needs to be some kind of quality control, so that it is proven that by using Sorinfer, the production goes up,” he added.
Sorinfer is a new fermented complete feed product, created by one of IPB University’s Faculty of Animal Science Professors, a lecturer at the Department of Nutrition and Feed Technology (INTP), Prof Luki Abdullah. IPB University’s innovative animal feed is made up from sorghum and indigofera.
Zoufikar Imani, President Director of PT SMK, explained several things related to this collaboration. “From the beginning, we were set aside from the private side to commercialise the results of innovation, from the side of entrepreneurs calculating risks and needing one more stage, namely downstreaming,” he said.
“The concept we agreed for the building is that we grant the building, cooperation and profit sharing, this is a pilot plan. The main goal is to absorb the labour of IPB University graduates,” he explained.
In addition, he explained, the future plan will be a showroom with good management and installation. The security that will be applied is professional security personnel and access to the area is restricted.
This activity was also attended and witnessed by the Vice Dean of Fapet IPB University for Academic, Student Affairs, and Alumni Prof Irma Isnafia Arief and INTP Department lecturer Sazly Tutur Risyahadi, STP, MT, as well as Adam Mirza and Rama representatives from PT SMK. (Femmy/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
