Participants of the 16th International Summer Course Program on Tropical Agriculture and Environmental Management toward Regional Sustainability of the Graduate School (SPs) of IPB University visited Kampoeng Wisata Cinangneng in Cihideung Udik Village, Ciampea, Bogor (9/9). In this place, summer course participants from various countries came to learn traditional agriculture as well as Sudanese cultural customs.

The program participants came from various universities including Ibaraki University, The University of the Ryukyus, and IPB University. They came not only from Indonesia, but also from Japan, Uganda, Afghanistan, and China.

Dr Liyantono, Chair of the SPs IPB University Summer Course Program said that the topic of the 2024 Summer Course was about agriculture and the environment. Kampoeng Wisata Cinangneng was chosen because it represents a miniature of agriculture in the Parahyangan or Pasundan region. The participants can see agricultural practices such as paddy fields and fish ponds.

“Participants can explore traditional knowledge and local wisdom that can become knowledge when we study modern agriculture, such as agricultural mechanization and smart agriculture. In addition, we can explore the history of traditional community knowledge wisely,” he said.

In addition, Dr Liyantono added that the most important thing about this place is integrated farming which is passed by a river as a source of water, a source of life that is very important for agriculture. It is hoped that participants can see how traditional agriculture is in Kampoeng Wisata Cinangneng.

“Not only practices related to agriculture such as cultivation of crops, livestock, fisheries, but there is also culture or culture that is a habit of Sundanese people such as playing angklung, gamelan which can provide insight to Summer Course 2024 participants,” he added.

Indria Sari Zahariah, a guide at Kampoeng Wisata Cinangneng, explained that Hester Basoeki, as the founder of Kampoeng Wisata Cinangneng, is one of the figures known through the breakthrough of the Sustainable Village program or commonly called the Pulang Kampoeng program. Kampoeng Wisata Cinangneng not only provides knowledge about West Javanese culture but also experiences the lifestyle and traditions of the village community.

“The main goal is to inspire the richness and beauty of West Java/Sunda culture through singing, dancing, and playing local musical instruments and also for the younger generation to get to know the way of life of the village community,” he explained. (HBL/Rz) (IAAS/Aly)
