Department of Community Nutrition IPB University Invites Nutrition Expert from Malaysia to Discuss Nutrition Policy Evaluation

The Department of Community Nutrition, Faculty of Human Ecology in collaboration with the International Research Institute (LRI) of Food, Nutrition, and Health of IPB University presented a nutrition expert, Prof Norhasmah Sulaiman from Universiti Putra Malaysia to discuss nutrition policy. 

This activity is part of the Visiting Professor programme as an effort to strengthen international cooperation and share knowledge in the field of nutrition, while providing direct experience to students and lecturers of IPB University.

Chairperson of the Department of Public Nutrition, Prof Katrin Roosita, said that this activity was expected to provide benefits for students and lecturers of IPB University.

“Welcome to IPB University, Prof Norhasmah Sulaiman. Thank you for being present and sharing your knowledge with us at the Department of Community Nutrition, Faculty of Human Ecology, IPB University. Her experience and expertise in nutrition policy research and evaluation will be very valuable to us,” said Prof Katrin.

She said that this activity was the beginning of further collaboration between Universiti Putra Malaysia and IPB University. “Hopefully, this kind of interaction and knowledge exchange will continue to improve the quality of education and research in the field of nutrition,” she said.

Prof Katrin also emphasised the importance of this activity in enriching insights and expanding international networks for the participants. She hoped the workshop would provide practical skills and in-depth knowledge in developing research in nutrition.

Through this Visiting Professor programme, Prof Katrin said, it is hoped to create a closer academic relationship between Universiti Putra Malaysia and IPB University. The participants, both young lecturers and postgraduate students, are expected to utilise this opportunity to enrich their knowledge in the field of nutrition, as well as gain new insights relevant to the development of nutrition science and policy in Indonesia.

“The Visiting Professor programme is supported by the 2024 Inter-University Centre of Excellence (PUAPT) grant. The activities of the grant consist of several series, including guest lectures for undergraduate and postgraduate students of Nutrition Science at IPB University and workshops. In addition, the Visiting Professor’s activities coincide with the Summer Course activities at the Department of Community Nutrition, she was also one of the speakers at the event,” said Prof Katrin.

In her presentation, Prof Norhasmah discussed about Theory of Change (ToC). ToC is a theory that is useful for identifying data, to discuss research on nutrition policy evaluation in Malaysia.

She said that research in the field of nutrition policy evaluation requires a systematic approach, from data collection to analysis of the impact of the programme on the nutritional status of the community.
