The Dosen Pulang Kampung (Dospulkam) program initiated by IPB University again showed its concern for the development of agriculture and animal husbandry in rural areas. Dr Soni Trison, Chairman of the Forest Management Department, as the program leader collaborated with the Indonesian Zakat Initiative (IZI) to provide goat assistance to the Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) Mandiri in Karangpari Village, Bantarkawung District, Brebes Regency, Central Java.

The assistance in the form of goats with a total value of 30 million rupiah is expected to boost the village economy through the development of goat farming businesses.

In this program, Dr Heri Ahmad Sukria, lecturer of Nutrition Science and Feed Technology of IPB University, participated as the main instructor in goat management training.

Prior to the handover of aid, villagers and local farmers received training on good goat rearing techniques, feed management, and how to maintain the health of livestock so that productivity remains optimal.

Dr Soni Trison as the Leader of the Dospulkam Program in Karangpari Village stated, “We believe that with proper training and mentoring, this goat assistance will have a long-term impact on the welfare of the community. This program not only provides capital, but also the skills to manage livestock properly.”

On the same occasion, Dr Heri emphasized the importance of proper nutrition management to increase livestock yields. “Proper feed nutrition will determine the health and productivity of livestock. We hope the community can apply the knowledge provided in this training,” he added.

In the handover ceremony, the Chief of Karangpari Village, Fitriyani expressed her appreciation to IZI and IPB University for the support given to the community. “We hope that this assistance can be utilized as well as possible by the farmers, so that it can increase their income and quality of life,” she said.

This collaboration between academics, zakat institutions, and local communities is expected to be an example that can be replicated by other villages, to maximize the potential of local resources for the improvement of community welfare. (*/Lp) (IAAS/HLF)
