Student Activity Unit (UKM) Lawalata IPB University is now 50 years old. In commemoration of its half-century anniversary, Lawalata IPB University transmitted its concern and love for the environment through various activities with the theme ‘Keeping Indonesia’s Earth Sustainable’. The action was contained in the form of an expo, workshop, and talk show at Taman Koleksi, IPB Baranangsiang Campus, Bogor (21/9).

Vice Rector of IPB University in the field of Global Connectivity, Collaboration and Alumni Relations, Prof Iskandar Zulkarnaen Siregar who attended the activity said, at the age of 50 years, Lawalata IPB University increasingly showed itself as a strong and great student organization. “We believe that in its 50th year, Lawalata IPB University has contributed a lot to the environment and produced a great reputation,” said Prof Iskandar.

He said, “We know the various expeditions that Lawalata has conducted, both land and sea. Not only that, Lawalata IPB University does not forget to help the community in nature conservation. We hope that this reputation will continue to run and continue to be improved for countless years.”

Prof Iskandar suggested that the nature lover organization at IPB University has an endowment fund to support the sustainability of the organization in the future. He also thinks that there will be many philanthropists who set aside their budget to help activities related to the environment. Moreover, Lawalata IPB University focuses on the triple planetary crisis, namely climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental pollution.

Trustee of Lawalata IPB University, Prof Mirza Dikari Kusrini said that the nature-loving UKM has contributed a lot to the nation for fifty years. Especially in the formation of student character.

“By joining Lawalata IPB University, the character of students can be formed as people who love nature and care about existing environmental problems,” said Prof Mirza. 

Prof Mirza emphasized that by participating in nature lovers’ activities, it can foster a sense of responsibility and group cooperation. This is what shapes the character of IPB University alumni when working, they can quickly adapt.

Chairman of Lawalata IPB University Rifandi Ismail added, Lawalata has proven itself as one of the leading student organizations of nature lovers who are consistent in preserving the environment. He said, at the age of half a century, Lawalata is faced with considerable challenges, especially in the context of climate change and environmental damage.

“Hopefully Lawalata IPB University will continue to grow and develop into a strong and solid organization, and be useful for nature and the nation.
