Innovation Real Thematic Work Lecture (KKNT) Students planted 500 mangroves with a Mangrove Lovers Group in Pabean Ilir Village, Pasekan District, Indramayu Regency, West Java. This activity aims to provide education about the importance of the role of mangroves in coastal areas.

Devani Ira Putri, a student of KKNT Innovation from IPB University said, this mangrove planting activity also aims to withstand the blows of waves or wind during a storm. Thus, he said, it is hoped that this action can protect the existence of the beach. Mangroves are also places for spawning, nurturing and food sources for various aquatic biota such as fish, shrimp, and crabs.

Cukup Rudianto as the Leader of the Mangrove Lovers Group of Pabean Ilir Village conveyed the problems experienced by mangrove managers. “In the last few months, most of the mangroves that are planted have died or are carried away by the current when the tide is high.”

In this activity, it is observed that some mangroves are withered or the stems that no longer have leaves. However, most of the mangroves are lush and well-maintained and have a fairly good growth.

IPB University students hope that the mangrove seeds that are planted can grow well and provide benefits to the surrounding community, especially the coastal community of Pabean Ilir Village.

At the end of the event, there is also a handover of mangroves from students to the mangrove community so that they can be properly maintained. With the mangrove planting with the students of KKNT Innovation from IPB University, it is expected to give a long-term positive impact to the Ilir Customs Village. (*/Rz) (IAAS/IAN)
