IPB University Vocational School Lecturers conducted community service activities (PPM) through the Lecturer Returning Home scheme themed Integrated Farming System at SMK Al-Jauhariyah Cianjur, West Java.

The team of lecturers involved in this activity included Suhendi Irawan, STrLog, MSc, Firman Muhammad Basar, S.Pd., M.Pd., Ulil Azmi Nurlaili Afifah S.P., M.Si., Dian Eka Ramadhani, S.Pi., M.Si., Rici Tri Harpin Pranata, S.KPm., M.Si., and Derry Dardanella, S.TP., M.Si. The activity was also attended by the Principal of SMK Al-Jauhariyah, teachers, teaching staff, students and students of IPB University Vocational School.

At the beginning of the activity, the leader of the Dospulkam team, Suhendi Irawan, said that SMK Al-Jauhariyah is one of the leading central vocational schools in the field of agricultural product processing agribusiness (APHP). In this boarding school vocational school, agricultural and fisheries cultivation is the science taught to students.

“Previously, IPB University Vocational School was a companion university for SMK Al-Jauhariyah in the vocational school assistance program. Therefore, it is hoped that the relationship between SMK Al-Jauhariyah and IPB University Vocational School can continue to be established. The presence of academics can also be a motivation and add learning media for students here in pursuing knowledge,” he said.

Greetings from the Principal of SMK Al-Jauhariyah, Agus Koswara welcomed the arrival of IPB University Vocational School lecturers at his school. He hopes that the programs implemented can raise the enthusiasm of students to revive agriculture in the Islamic boarding school environment and teaching and learning activities at SMK Al-Jauhariyah.

Dian Eka Ramadhani as a resource person with students said that the creation of this Integrated Farming System will later produce catfish and melons that can be consumed or used for commercialization. She added that this installation consists of a simple screenhouse in which there is a media as a place to breed catfish and melons simultaneously.

“Collaboration from various fields is expected to be able to provide maximum innovation in the Integrated Farming System implemented at SMK Al-Jauhariyah Cianjur. The system implemented is also expected to be able to streamline fixed costs in producing catfish and melons. Melon plants will get nutrients from water containing catfish waste, thus minimizing capital for purchasing fertilizers,” said Dian.

Starting from this principle, she continued, SMK Al-Jauhariyah, which is also an Islamic boarding school, is expected to be able to meet food needs independently. The use of other fish and other types of plants such as vegetables can also be done in subsequent production activities.

“The Integrated Farming System installation that is implemented is expected to continue to be used sustainably with various commodities that can be modified,” she concluded. (*/Rz) (IAAS/HNJ)
