Team of PPK Ormawa BEM Fema IPB University Revives Traditional Games That Almost Forgotten
IPB University students who are members of the Student Organization Capacity Strengthening Program (PPK Ormawa) team of the Student Executive Board (BEM) of the Faculty of Human Ecology (Fema) held a play while learning activity held at Madrasah Al-Fitri, Sukawening Village, Bogor Regency, West Java.
On this occasion, the IPB University student team carried out teaching and learning activities with a fun learning method themed Sport Day, which is one of the learning subthemes of the Talent Interest Corner.
Talent Interest Corner itself is one of the literacy corners of the program carried by the PPK Ormawa BEM Fema IPB University team, namely the Sembada program or ‘Sahabat Edukasi Sukawening Berdaya Based on Character Values Education to Realize a Quality Smart Village’.
In its implementation, the PPK Ormawa BEM Fema team introduced three traditional games, namely jumping rope, cranklek, and marbles as a form of physical activity for children.
“When we conveyed this plan to the madrasah management, we received a very positive response. The Chief of Madrasah, Mrs. Fitri, immediately prepared the field behind the madrasah for use, and allowed us to use it,” said Azaria, one of the student team members.
The children’s enthusiasm was felt from the very beginning of the activity. During the prayer session and morning talk in class, one of the children named Farrel enthusiastically asked, “When are we playing? I can’t wait.” Although the weather was quite hot, the children’s enthusiasm and happiness did not fade. They participated joyfully in every game.
According to Azaria, who is also the person in charge of the program, this activity not only aims to introduce traditional games, but also as an effort to instill the character value of ‘Love God and all His Creation’ as well as the pillars of ‘cleanliness, tidiness, health, and safety (K4)’ adapted from the Indonesia Heritage Foundation.
“With this spirit, we hope to instill positive values and love for local culture to Madrasah Al-Fitri students,” she said.
Through this activity, she and his team also hope to make a real contribution in preserving traditional games and instilling positive values to children, while strengthening their love for local culture and the environment.
“Despite their generation being tech-savvy, during the implementation the children were very enthusiastic about playing traditional games. With this activity, hopefully the younger generation can continue to preserve Indonesia’s cultural heritage and can instill the value of cooperation and increase creativity,” she concluded.
