IPB University Lecturers Share Marine Conservation Knowledge at Medan Area University
In an effort to strengthen research and education cooperation, a number of IPB University lecturers from the Department of Marine Science and Technology (ITK) shared knowledge about the exploration of marine biodiversity in sustainable environmental conservation efforts. This was organized through a public lecture held at the Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Medan Area (UMA).Â
For IPB University lecturers, this activity was carried out in the framework of the IPB University Dosen Pulang Kampung (Dospulkam) program. The lecturer team members consisted of Ir Endang S. Srimariana MSi, Dr Meutia S Ismet, Dr Nyoman Natih, and Nadya Cakasana, SKel, MSi.
The public lecture aimed to increase understanding of marine biodiversity and the importance of conservation efforts. The event was attended by UMA’s Vice Chancellor for Research, Publications and Partnerships, Dr Rahmad Syah; Dean of UMA’s Faculty of Science and Technology, Dr Ferdinand Susilo as well as vice deans and students.
In his remarks, Dr Rahmad Syah expressed his appreciation for the organization of this activity. “This public lecture is a valuable opportunity for students to gain insight into marine biodiversity. Hopefully, the knowledge gained can be applied in research and conservation activities in the future,” he said.
“The vast and deep ocean holds a variety of life that has not been fully revealed. Investigating deep-sea biodiversity is important to preserve the maritime environment,” explained Dr Meutia, one of the speakers in the public lecture agenda.
The participants seemed enthusiastic in attending this public lecture. The material presented by the speakers was very relevant to current environmental issues. The discussion that took place after the presentation session also further enriched the participants’ knowledge.
Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology UMA, Dr Ferdinand Susilo hopes that the cooperation between IPB University and UMA can continue, especially in the field of research and development of marine resources.
