Sekolah Kopi is a program that provides knowledge related to coffee commodities. Starting from the process of picking coffee beans from plants to the coffee brewing stage that can be served to coffee lovers. This program is carried out in three places, namely at BSP Farm, Agribusiness and Technology Park (ATP) and at Sobatani Cafe.

On the first day, Sekolah Kopi  participants learned about primary coffee processing at BSP Farm’s coffee farm in Cigombong, Bogor. Program participants were able to deepen their knowledge of the characteristics of robusta and arabica coffee plants.

“In the primary coffee processing material, the participants were introduced to various types of coffee post-harvest processes. The participants also sorted green coffee beans directly so that it is expected that they can find out the best coffee beans to be processed further,” said Yudha Berliandi, one of the IPB University students.

On the second and third days of the Coffee School program, participants learned about secondary coffee processing. In this session, participants learned that coffee beans have different flavors and aromas in each region of Indonesia.

“Sekolah Kopi participants are also equipped with the knowledge to know the roasting profile of coffee beans, so that they are expected to eventually know how to brew good coffee with the type of roasting profile they get,” said Yudha.

Sekolah Kopi participants were also invited to perform several types of coffee brewing techniques at Sobatani Cafe. “They learned to make espresso drinks using manual and machine techniques. In addition, the participants were also able to make palm sugar milk coffee using their own recipes and versions,” Yudha explained.

Dr Mohammad Iqbal Irfany, Assistant Director of Social Entrepreneurship DPMA IPB University was also present as well as tasting the brewed coffee that had been served directly by the participants of the Coffee School program. (*/Lp) (IAAS/ZQA)
