Caring about the environment, IPB University Innovation Real-Thematic Work Lecture (KKN-T) students utilize wasted potential in Kendayakan Village, Tegal Regency, Central Java by processing it into alternative animal feed.

Together with local farmers, KKN-T Innovation students implemented the EcoSilage program, an activity for making alternative animal feed or what could be called silage. Making silage uses local waste in Kendayakan Village, namely corn leaves, corn stalks and corn cobs.

“Making silage is something new for breeders in Kendayakan Village to supply ruminant feed which is nutritious and can be used at any time,” said Aurellia Farrelyn Putri, KKN-T Innovation student.

One of the breeders in Kendayakan Village, Wahyudi, said, “The activity of making silage animal feed is very beneficial for breeders because it uses waste that is usually thrown away and is easy to find.”

Aurellia revealed that the breeders were very enthusiastic about taking part in the event because they felt it was something new and very beneficial for their livestock. During the activity, the breeders helped in making silage feed. Curiosity filled the proceedings as evidenced by the many people who asked about this silage feed.

“The successful practice of making silage animal feed is proof that breeders have high enthusiasm for the progress of animal husbandry in Kendayakan Village,” he said.

The village is also looking with serious determination towards the development of integrated livestock so that Kendayakan Village can supply the animal protein needs of its own village. This activity is expected to reduce local waste and supply the need for nutrient-rich animal feed in Kendayakan Village. (*/Rz) (IAAS/ASD)
