IPB University’s Natural Resources and Environmental Management Study Program (PSL) together with Ecologica commemorated International Environment Day by organising a National Seminar and Expo Week 2024: Environmental Detox: Connecting With Nature.

The chairman of the committee, Asminar, SP, MSi, stated that as the culmination of the series, the National Seminar and Expo Week 2024 was not only a forum for scientific discussion, but also a space for interaction for various groups, both academics, practitioners and the community in an effort to maintain environmental sustainability.

“This activity was attended by 100 participants from various universities. This shows the high enthusiasm for environmental issues. The diversity of participants’ backgrounds enriches the perspectives discussed in this seminar,” he said.

Furthermore, he explained, the series began with mangrove planting in Cilacap (18/7), which symbolized the beginning of this movement. This was followed by tree planting in the Ciliwung watershed, Sukaresmi Village, Tanah Sereal District, Bogor Regency, supported by PT Mahakam Jaya, PT Geo Silva Nusantara, and Pertamina. This activity emphasized the importance of nature conservation that starts from small steps but has a big impact.

One of the speakers, Muhammad Ridwan, SHut, presented his presentation entitled ‘Carbon Reserve Potential in Supporting Sustainable Development’. He explained that carbon stock potential is very important in supporting sustainable development, especially related to climate change and carbon trading.

“Its implementation faces major challenges such as policies, institutions, and methodologies needed for measurement, reporting, and verification. However, there are great opportunities to maximize this potential through research, environmental businesses, and nature-based solutions,” he said.

The results of the National Seminar and Expo Week 2024 include posters and proceedings. The posters came from PSL alumni, while the presenters were students from various universities. In addition, the seminar also produced a collaboration network that is expected to continue in real action for environmental sustainability.

This event proved that concern for the environment can unite various parties for a common goal, namely maintaining and preserving the earth for future generations.

Participants came from IPB University, Universitas Serang Raya, Universitas Jenderal Soedirman, Universitas Darussalam Ambon, Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Al Ghazali Cilacap, Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Purwokerto, National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), and the general public.
