Caring for the Health of Toddlers, PPK Ormawa Himiteka IPB University Holds Mobile Health Checks
The Student Organization Capacity Strengthening Program Team (PPK Ormawa) of the Marine Science and Technology Student Association (Himiteka) IPB University carried out mobile health check activities at Posyandu Mangrove Jaya, Pantai Mekar Village, Muaragembong, West Java.
The Mobile Health Check activity is part of the C-Ling program, one of four Himiteka Ormawa PPK programs engaged in health. The program, which implements the third point of the sustainable development goals (SDGs), consists of a series of activities in the form of counselling for skin diseases to the community, stunting in toddlers, and mobile health check services.
In this inaugural activity, PPK Ormawa Himiteka’s Mobile Health Check collaborated with the Muaragembong Health Center and Posyandu Mangrove Java. The activity is in the form of measuring the height and weight of toddlers carried out at the Mangrove Jaya Posyandu RT 03 RW 01 Pantai Mekar Village.
The health-based activity was recognized by Afriel Alex Handro Lumbangaol, the person in charge of C-Ling, as something quite contrary to the background of the Himiteka PPK Ormawa team, the majority of which came from the Department of Marine Science and Technology, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK).
“This activity is a new challenge for us because it is a health activity that is very contrary to the basics of the Himiteka Ormawa PPK team,” admitted Afriel.
“However, from this activity, we learned a lot about checking and handling the right health for toddlers under the age of five. In addition, we also received a lot of guidance and assistance from the Muaragembong Sub District Health Center and Mangrove Jaya Posyandu,” she said.
Together with representatives of the Puskesmas, midwives of Pantai Mekar Village, and cadres of Mangrove Jaya Posyandu, the PPK Ormawa Himiteka team measured and weighed 45 toddlers. Afriel said the activity was smooth and lively. “The activity went well. Many mothers came with their children and we were very excited to see the large number of people who came,” he said.
On the other hand, Richard, a nutritionist at the Muaragembong District Health Center who participated in the Mobile Health Check activity, revealed that he was happy for the arrival of the Himiteka Ormawa PPK team.
“It’s great to be able to join the activities of friends from the Himiteka Ormawa PPK. Hopefully the arrival of Himiteka friends can provide new experiences for the community,” he said, who is also an alumni of IPB University.
“It adds a new atmosphere. The people here are also happy with the arrival of IPB University students, adding a new atmosphere. Always success. Hopefully the output of the activity (PPK Ormawa) can have more impact, not only the academic impact, but also the impact of experience for PPK Ormawa friends, “continued Richard.
Meanwhile, Afriel hopes that this Mobile Health Check activity can continue to run well. “We hope that this activity can always run well because the activity at Posyandu Mangrove is one of a series of Mobile Health Check activities from the C-Ling work program,” he said.
Posyandu Mangrove Java itself is located in an area that is often affected by tidal flooding. Flooding also sometimes hampers health services in the area because the streets become muddy and residents’ homes become submerged. (*/Rz) (IAAS/Aly)
