In order to improve the welfare of farmers and environmental sustainability, KKNT Innovation IPB University students held a socialization of plant cultivation, eco enzyme and DigiTani on Sunday, 14/7. This activity was attended by farmer group members in the ward of Tani Mukti Farmer Group in Ciwaru Village, Ciemas District, Sukabumi Regency, West Java.

Ikin as the Leader of the Mukti Farmer Group opened the event and said that this socialization activity was very useful for farmers and could provide knowledge. “This activity provided by students can provide new knowledge as well as direct application for farmers, especially the Tani Mukti Farmer Group,” said Ikin.

In this activity, students explained the techniques and stages of cultivation of chili and tomato plants from variety selection to harvest. In addition, the farmers were also given direct experience in sowing chili and tomato seeds.

Farmers were introduced to eco enzyme which is a liquid resulting from fermentation of organic waste with many benefits including reducing household waste, as an organic fertilizer and insect repellent so that it can be a good solution for farmers. A live demonstration of making eco enzyme was conducted, where participants were invited to try to make their own with the guidance of students.

“We recommend that in the introduction of eco enzyme there is already a finished product so that it can be directly applied to plants and the effect is immediately visible.  If the effect is good, farmers will be more interested in eco enzyme because the process is easy and the price is cheap,” said one of the farmers.

The last activity in this socialization was the introduction of the DigiTani application as a media platform for communication and consultation between farmers and IPB University experts on agriculture and rural areas.

Ikin emphasized his commitment to continue supporting farmers through various training programs and technical assistance. “Cooperation between the government and farmers is the key to success in facing agricultural challenges in the future,” said Ikin. (*/Lp) (IAAS/NYS).
