Girijaya Village, Cidahu District, Sukabumi, West Java, has become the center of attention with the ongoing Dosen Pulang Kampung (Dospulkam) activities led by Dr Eva Rachmawati over two days. This activity aims to explore and develop this village tourism potential with Forum Group Discussion (FGD) and workshops with indigenous community.

One of the main activities in this program is developing a sustainable tourism program led by Resti Meilani, SHut, MSi. The designed tourism program included ‘One Day One Trip’ and ‘Explore Girijaya’ activity within two days and one night. With well planned planning, these programs are expected to provide a memorable tourism experience for visitors.

“The tourism potential in Girijaya Village can be fully offered to visitors to provide a different experience in a short amount of time in the same place,” said Resti Meilani.

The Implementation of arrangement tourism program was implemented together with the community while actively involving them in FGD. Community members that are interested in planning tourism programs are given a chance to contribute, so it is expected that there will be new innovative programs organised independently by the Girijaya village community in the future.

Other than the tourism planning program, this activity also discusses management and tourism cost calculation. The purpose is to make the profit from tourism activities an income for the community, that in the end can increase their economic welfare. Active community involvement in planning and managing tourism is also expected to strengthen their sense of belonging and responsibility towards the tourism potential in their village.

During the workshops, the community is encouraged to understand the importance of masive and structured tourism planning. This is to make sure that tourists will get the best experience when visiting Girijaya Village. Lectures give guidance and direction about effective ways to manage tourism resources and marketing strategies that can attract more visitors.

This Dospulkam activities have received a warm welcome from Girijaya Village community. They feel really helped by the lecturer’s guidance and hope that similar activities can continue to be held in the future. One of the Girijaya village traditional figures expressed his appreciation towards this activity and hoped for a planned program to be implemented soon.

The success of these activities is also seen from the enthusiasm of the community  in every discussion and workshop session. They actively give recommendations and creative ideas for the Girijaya Village development program. The collaboration between lecture and the indigenous community is expected to set an example for other villages in sustainable local tourism development. (*/Rz) (IAAS/EXC)
