Startup fostered by IPB University’s Science and Technology Area Institute (LKST), CocoVine participated in the Startup Go Global Short Course program in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia recently. The program was organized by the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (Kemenkop UKM).

The program was attended by 24 participants, consisting of Kemenkop UKM team, business incubator managers, and startups throughout Indonesia that have been selected by Kemenkop UKM. LKST IPB University Business Incubator and startup Cocovine were selected as one of the participants of this program.

The opening of the program was held at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) which was attended by the leadership of QUT. Vice for Entrepreneurship of the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs, Ir Siti Azizah, MBA in her speech expressed her appreciation to the participants who were selected to take part in this activity.

“The purpose of this program is certainly very good, namely to increase knowledge, networking and best practices related to the development of the startup ecosystem, knowing how to develop the real sector and Australian government policies in supporting startups,” Azizah said.

She said the program also opened up mindsets and opportunities to develop business models that can compete globally, as well as opening up investment opportunities and global startup markets.

“We hope that the participants can bring home valuable knowledge and experience to be applied in the development of the startup ecosystem in Indonesia,” Azizah continued.

Chief of LKST IPB University, Prof Erika B Laconi hopes that the knowledge, experience and best practices gained during the short course can be adopted in the development of incubation and startup ecosystems at IPB University. “Hopefully this program can improve the quality of incubation and startups to continue to grow and compete globally,” she said.

Short course activities are carried out through visitation, presentation and discussion, and demonstrations by various speakers from academia, government, industry and business practitioners, including the QUT Center for Agriculture and the Bioeconomy, Austrex – AgTrade Holding Company, QUT Center for Robotic, Trade and Investment Queensland (TIQ), QUT Entrepreneurship, Maleny Dairies, The Turbine Sunshine Coast, and Spoon Fork Resto.

Deva Primadia Almada, Assistant for Business Incubator of LKST IPB University, who was selected as a participant, said that this program was very good for opening mindsets, insights and opportunities for cooperation for business incubators and startups to develop business models that can compete globally.

“We learned how startup product research and development must be oriented towards problem-solution fit, business-founder fit, and product-market fit,” he said.

In addition, Deva hopes that robotic technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in agribusiness as has been done at QUT can be developed at IPB University in order to support startup competitiveness in the global market.

CEO of CocoVine startup, Shidiq Lanang Prasetiyo felt the importance of developing an agile startup business ecosystem, fluid communication and open mind between incubators and startups. According to him, a comfortable workspace interior design with a variety of colors is also important because it can increase the enthusiasm, creativity, inspiration and productivity of startups.

“CocoVine has also explored communication with Austrex, one of the largest livestock industries in Australia for business collaboration opportunities to utilize CocoVine products (natural preservatives from coconut water fermentation) for meat preservation,” he explained. (*/Rz) (IAAS/EXC)
