The Certified Internship and Independent Study (MSIB) programme from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) is one of the leading initiatives in the Freedom of Learning Independence Campus (MBKM) policy. This programme is designed to provide students with real work experience and off-campus learning opportunities in a structured and certified manner.

One of the MSIB programme participants is Anis Laila, a 6th semester IPB University Vocational School student from the Accounting Study Programme, who dared to step out of her comfort zone to experience the world of marketing.

Anis Laila, who is used to numbers, financial reports and data analysis, decided to explore the field of marketing by joining an internship programme at the Employment Social Security Agency (BPJS) or BP Jamsostek. Her desire to understand how products, services or programmes can attract consumers and how effective marketing strategies can ensure client satisfaction prompted her to take this step.

“I wanted to explore more about the insurance field and how to provide good customer service and understand clients’ needs to build sustainable relationships,” Anis said.

Choosing the Specialised Account Representative/Marketing department at BP Jamsostek as her internship site was a thoughtful decision. Despite coming from Accounting, Anis believes that her strong determination and willingness to learn can help her succeed.

According to her, marketing and accounting, although different, complement each other. The ability to analyse financial data and provide insights into profitability and customer acquisition costs is an invaluable skill in marketing.

“Marketing is not only about introducing products, but also understanding the financial and accounting aspects. This helps in analysing financial data and providing insights into profitability and customer acquisition costs,” Anis explains.

Special Account Representatives/Marketing at BPJS Ketenagakerjaan play an important role in maintaining relationships with specialised partners or customers. They are responsible for ensuring that the services and programmes offered are well received. Their duties include education and socialisation to increase awareness and participation in BP Jamsostek programmes as well as ensuring that customers’ needs and expectations are met.

During her internship, Anis developed many new competencies, especially in communication and adaptability. She became more courageous in interacting with people and overcoming her hesitation when speaking in public.

“The experience and practice I got made me more confident in conveying ideas or opinions. I learnt how to convey information in a way that is easily understood by various people,” said Anis.

For her, the role of mentors is also very helpful in developing competence. Anis feels lucky to have mentors who support her and provide solutions to any problems she faces. “Alhamdulillah, I have very good mentors. They always listen actively and give full attention to the mentees’ complaints,” Anis added.

Anis’ decision to pursue an internship in marketing is a bold move that demonstrates a high spirit of learning and adaptation. This experience not only broadened her personal horizons, but also opened up a wider range of career opportunities.

“Dare to try new things, because it is in the challenges that we find opportunities to grow and develop. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and explore a new and exciting world,” Anis advised other students.

The MSIB programme not only provides practical experience, but also equips students with industry-relevant skills, preparing them to face future professional challenges. (ALL/AKI/ASW/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
