Interested in Biomedical Research, Daewoong Pharmaceutical Signs MoU with IPB University, Offering Gene Editing Technology
IPB University and Daewoong Pharmaceutical signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU). The leadership of Daewoong was received by the Vice Rector of IPB University for Global Connectivity, Collaboration and Alumni Relations, Prof Iskandar Z Siregar. The MoU was held on Wednesday (12/6) in the Rector’s Conference Room, IPB Dramaga Campus.
“IPB University welcomes this cooperation. With the discussion of both parties, we can discuss various researches that can be developed in cooperation between IPB University and Daewoong in the future,” said Prof Iskandar.
In the discussion, Jaeseung Yoon, Chief Vision Officer, The Chairman of Daewoong Pharmaceutical Co, Ltd discussed his interest in biomedical research developed by the Center for Primate Animal Studies (PSSP) IPB University. He also briefly reviewed his technology in gene editing, which can be applied to agricultural or livestock products.
During the discussion, the possibility of cooperation in the exchange of experts was also discussed. “Daewoong really needs smart young talents from IPB University,” said Jaeseung Yoon.
The Chairman of PSSP IPB University, Dr drh Huda Salahudin Darusman elaborated that Daewoong offered several biomedical research topics. Not only that, they want to develop a research institute, exchange expertise for students and lecturers.
“Daewoong will facilitate the establishment of a special facility for drug and vaccine testing at IPB University that focuses mainly on primates. Thus, research, training from this cooperation will be the focus of PSSP IPB University,” said Dr Huda.
In addition, he mentioned that Daewoong has also mastered gene editing techniques, so it can create new varieties of plants and new breeds of animals. This is very useful for the development of better products, and can also be used for medicine. This, he said, could be the next cooperation between Daewoong and IPB University.
“I hope that with the cooperation of IPB University with Daewoong, which is the oldest and largest pharmaceutical, vaccine company in South Korea, there will be technology transfer in the form of gene editing, drug development, to new varieties of both livestock and agriculture, there are also facilities that can be developed for joint work,” said Dr Huda.
The leaders of Daewoong who attended included Jaeseung Yoon (Chief Vision Officer, Chairman), Seongso Park (President, CEO), Goo Jang (Professor of Seoul National University, Veterinarian Department), Jaechun Yoon (Vice Chairman), Joonseok Park (Chief of Drug Discovery Center), Jaehak Ryu (Executive Director of Bio R&D Division), and Junghyun Yang (Senior Manager of Bio Strategy and Planning).
