Encouraging Scientific Publications to Penetrate Reputable International Journals, Family and Consumer Sciences IPB University Holds Writing Training Program
Successfully obtaining soft skills grant funding, the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences (IKK), Faculty of Human Ecology (Fema) IPB University, swiftly executed a Training Program on Writing and Publishing Articles in Sinta 1/2 Journals and Reputable International Journals with the theme “How Can I Get Better at Writing Scientific Papers?”.
This program is designed to support students in compiling and publishing quality scientific papers and successfully penetrating reputable journals. This is a real effort of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences IPB University in improving scientific writing skills as well as to improve the main performance indicators (KPI) of the department.
“Successfully publishing a journal is an extraordinary competency for students that will support their future, both to continue their studies and to work,” said Vice Dean of Fema IPB University for Academic and Student Affairs, Dr Megawati Simanjuntak.
She added, “For master students, journal publication is an obligation to be able to complete the study. Extraordinarily, for undergraduate students, successfully publishing a journal is an achievement.”
The training program lasted for one month (June-July), consisting of five intensive training sessions. Materials include the structure of scientific writing, writing and referencing techniques, the use of Zetero and plagiarism checks. Not only that, participants will also get tips on how to successfully penetrate reputable journals to evaluate and finalize articles for submission to the intended journals.
Student enthusiasm for this program is very high. Participants consisted of final year undergraduate students of Family and Consumer Sciences and postgraduate students of Family Science and Child Development (IKA). After selection, there were 33 participants who passed the selection and became training participants.
In the first session (8/6), participants received material exposure related to the structure of scientific writing as well as directed to create articles in journal templates with their respective group facilitators. There are five facilitators prepared to assist participants until they successfully publish their articles in reputable journals.
“This writing training is really needed by both undergraduate and graduate students. A lot of new knowledge and writing strategies are very insightful from this activity.
