IPB University Vocational School Students Educational Fieldtrip of Fish Hatchery Biotechnology
IPB University Vocational School students from the Production Technology and Management of Aquaculture Study Program held a field trip to the Animal, Fish and Plant Quarantine Standard Test Center (BBUSKHIT) in Cipayung, East Jakarta. This activity was attended by 111 4th semester students from Bogor campus and Sukabumi campus, accompanied by lecturers and assistants.
This field trip aims to provide students with a practical understanding of disease prevention techniques and fish treatment as well as biotechnology in fish hatcheries.
The Acting Chief of the Cipayung Fish Quarantine and Quality Control Standard Test Agency (BUSKIPM), Ade Noor Kusumahati, in her speech emphasized the importance of the laboratory’s role in supporting the successful development of the marine and fisheries sector.
“The fishery product quality testing laboratory plays a very important role in supporting the successful development of the marine and fisheries sector. Through accurate testing, we can ensure the safety and quality of fishery products,” said Ade Noor.
Furthermore, the Chief of the IKN Study Program at IPB University Vocational School, Dr Wiyoto in his speech said that this activity is very important for students to understand firsthand the application of the theory they have learned in class.
“This field trip is very important for students to understand the application of the theory they have learned in class. Through this visit, they can see firsthand how the theory is applied in the fishing industry,” said Dr Wiyoto.
Also present as a guest speaker was Senior Technical Specialist at BBUSKHIT, Zakiyah Widowati SPi, MSi. She presented material related to the function and role of BBUSKHIT in testing the quality of fishery products. According to her, the proficiency test conducted by BBUSKHIT is vital in ensuring laboratory quality and accreditation.
“The role of fishery product quality testing laboratories is vital in producing test results that are used as the basis for issuing Health Certificates throughout Indonesia. The synergy between BBUSKHIT and fisheries stakeholders is very important to support the development of the marine and fisheries sector,” said Zakiyah Widowati.
After the presentation, the students of IPB University Vocational School were invited to visit the BBUSKHIT laboratory. Here, they were able to see first-hand the quality testing process of fishery products and discuss with experts about the techniques used. This activity provides an opportunity for students to apply their theoretical knowledge in real situations, as well as understand the importance of quality and safety testing of fishery products.
