Enjoying the moment of Eid, it is important for us to maintain a balanced diet for our health. During Eid, we are often tempted by various delicious and typical dishes such as opor, rendang, curry or meatballs, which are served at the dinner table.

To maintain nutritional balance during Eid, IPB University expert from the Department of Community Nutrition, Purnawati Hustina Rachman, S.Gz, M.Gizi reminds that dietary intake during Eid must be maintained so that the body condition remains fit and healthy.

Maintaining a balanced diet during Eid can be done with some wise strategies. In order to still be able to enjoy Eid food safely and healthily, she mentioned there are some tips and suggestions when consuming Eid food.

“First, we need to limit the consumption of foods that contain high fat, such as opor, rendang, and other fatty dishes. The high saturated fat in these foods can increase the risk of weight gain, high blood pressure, and unhealthy cholesterol levels in the body,” Purnawati explains.

In addition, she added, reducing salt and sugar intake is also an important step in maintaining a balanced diet during Eid. Foods with high salt, she said, can cause an increase in blood pressure and the risk of heart disease.

In addition, consuming too much sugar can cause unstable blood sugar spikes and increase the risk of obesity and other metabolic diseases.

“Avoid foods and drinks that contain added artificial sugar, such as soft drinks and sugary foods,” she added.

To maintain the balance of other nutrients, she suggests drinking more water and also consuming vegetables and fruits.

“Drinking enough water and consuming vegetables and fruits is good for digestion and provides energy, vitamins and minerals that the body needs,” she said.

The proportion of food during Eid is also important to note.

According to her, “When consuming Eid food, ideally it should consist of one-third complex carbohydrate sources, one-third vegetables, one-sixth vegetable or animal protein, and one-sixth fruits.”

“This way, we can get balanced nutrition and fulfill our body’s needs,” she added.

The lecturer at the Faculty of Human Ecology, IPB University, reminded that what is equally important is education about the dangers and adverse effects of consuming foods high in sugar, salt and fat.

“Education to the surrounding such as our own family is important, so that Eid with family remains comfortable and the moment of Eid is maintained,” he concluded. (Arya/Rz) (IAAS/SNI)
