Building a Halal Ecosystem, HSC IPB University with PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Signs Cooperation

This signing event of the cooperation agreement between Halal Science Center (HSC) IPB University and PT Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI), TBK was carried out by the Chairman of the International Research Institute of IPB University, Food Nutrition and Health (LRI-PGI) Prof Drajat Mardianto with Muhammad Syukron Habiby, Group Head of the BSI Ecosystem Islamic Solution. This event was held in the Mawar courtroom, IPB Baranangsiang Campus, on Wednesday, 3/27.

Prof Drajat Martianto said, building a halal ecosystem is something important. “Speaking of building this halal food industry covers a wide spectrum, don’t get caught up in the problem of ignorance, the origin of materials is physically produced through the halal process, there is a little haraam contamination, then it will become haraam” he said.

In addition, regarding public literacy, he said that it is important to increase capacity, “We must train the community including Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) with literacy about halal in order to eliminate non-halal opportunities in small industries,” said Prof Drajat.

He also said that, through the collaboration of BSI with HSC IPB University which is under the auspices of this international research institution for food nutrition and health, it can be an opportunity for both parties to further increase the intensity of the halal ecosystem development program.

“The halal ecosystem must continue to be improved especially in Indonesia with the majority population of the Muslim community so that as a Muslim there will be accountability including food matters. The hope is that with cooperation there will be an acceleration in the halal context of food safety so that it can give a sense of security and trust to the community,” said Prof Drajat.

The same thing was conveyed by Muhammad Syukron Habiby, as the Group Head of the BSI Ecosystem Islamic Solution. He said that IPB University and BSI both have a strong commitment to build a halal ecosystem including in improving the halal industry.

“IPB University is a large institution and has a solid alumni network, so it will help encourage and accelerate the ecosystem that is built. Likewise with BSI which is already prominen so that it will reach a wider network through this collaboration,” said Syukron.

Meanwhile, Prof Khaswar Syamsu, Chairman of the Halal Science Centre (HSC) said that there are around 99 percent of the business world is a small industry whose understanding of halal literacy needs to be helped.

“In the Freedom of Learning – Independence Campus (MBKM) program, HSC has guided students to become halal companions in an effort to help small industries to get halal certification and we must cooperate with this,” said Prof Khaswar. (*/Lp) (IAAS/IAN)
